WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

Jason Clayborn is the oldest of six born to Jocelyn Clayborn in Louisville, Kentucky. Clayborn’s gospel music roots run deep; he is the grandson to Wilma Clayborn who was the first female gospel music disc jockey for the local gospel radio station, she also owned one of the only gospel music record stores in the state. At an early age, Clayborn was singing and playing drums in the local church and in the National Convention of Gospels Choirs and Choruses (NCGCC). Clayborn has toured the world with other national artists including several European and African tours with Dr. Ron Kenoly. In 2002, Clayborn was signed to Tyscot Records as a member of the world-renowned hip-hop gospel group, The Righteous Riders. During this time, Clayborn was nominated for three Gospel Music Association (GMA) awards, and a Stellar Award. Clayborn has also made appearances on BET, TBN and was a Kellogg’s Choir Competition Spokesperson.

Clayborn has written several hit songs for other artists including: VaShawn Mitchell (”I Worship You” and “Over and Over” which featured gospel music legend, Kim Burrell), Wess Morgan (”Get Me Thru” which sat on the Billboard Charts for several weeks), Ricky Dillard (”I Survived It”) and Hezekiah Walker (”You’re All I Need” and “Better”). Clayborn’s “Better” went on to peak at number one on the Billboard charts for 18 weeks. It also garnered Clayborn nominations for a Dove Award (Won), Stellar Award, Soultrain Award, Billboard Award, and Grammy Award.

In April of 2016, Clayborn founded The Atmosphere Changers (also known as T.A.C.), which is a gospel music choir comprised of young adults (ages 18-34) from Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. After just a short period of time, TAC went on to perform at the 100th Anniversary of the Metro United Way, who were celebrating their one-billion dollar fundraising goal to give to local charities.

In February of 2019, Clayborn rejoined the Tyscot Records family. Clayborn and The Atmosphere Changers released their debut single to radio in June of 2019 and are slated to release a full album later in 2019.

"PRAISE BELONGS TO YOU"
By: Jason Clayborn & The Atmosphere Changers

Seasoned gospel recording artist and producer, Jason Clayborn, and his group, The Atmosphere Changers, have dropped their debut Tyscot Records radio single, “Praise Belongs to You.” The soul-stirring praise and worship declaration came to Clayborn in a dream. “I actually woke up out of my sleep one day with the melody in my head and I wrote it in my phone and had to make sure no one else wrote it because it came easy,” he recalls.

The message of the song – surrendering to God – struck a chord with Clayborn who lives in the Louisville, KY area. “I always write what God puts on my heart,” he explains. “Like when I wrote `Better’ for Hezekiah Walker or `I Survived It’ for Ricky Dillard, it’s always where I am or where I feel people are in life and in their relationship to God. I feel God deserves all the praise and glory and He doesn’t need to share any of it. So, I wanted to let God know how awesome He is to me. It was from my heart.”

The uplifting track also features cameos from the spirited tenors Isaiah Freeman and Matt Austin which nicely mesh against Clayborn’s raspy vocal style. “Isaiah and Matt are both amazing independent artists and worship leaders. I told myself that I don’t care when God opens the door but I’m going to help others immediately. That’s what the Kingdom of God should look like in gospel music. the secular artists do it for each other, so why can’t we?”

Clayborn’s composition “Better” gave Hezekiah Walker an 18-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart in 2016, earned a Dove Award and was one of the Ten most played gospel songs of the year according to Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). Aside from writing other tunes for Hezekiah Walker, Clayborn has also composed songs for VaShawn Mitchell. In addition, he’s birthed melodies such as Wes Morgan’s Top 20 hit “Get Me Through,” Ricky Dillard’s “I Survived It” and Lisa Knowles-Smith’s current Top 30 radio single, “Great Big God.”
